Object of Beauty is a series of conceptual still life images that respond to typical societal expectations of beauty. A tongue-in-cheek reminder to find the beauty in the unexpected and to allow it to be seen for what it is. The objects in these images depict the never-ending discussion of what is beautiful and how we can accept ourselves and halt the search for unattainable perfection. Using recognizable items to provide a narrative helps us realize that sometimes the beauty we find is in the familiar that have become invisible to us. Re-imagining these objects in a new way can remind us to look deeper.
This series is a personal exploration that began with my children in mind. In their barrage of social media images portraying the filtered and face-tuned, I wanted to find a way to discuss the theme in a more accessible and humorous way.
